Bad odors from towels?

my husband has diabetes 2 and lately he has a really sweet sickly smell that's on his clothes, our towels, and now on my clothes from washing our clothes together i have used everything to try to get rid of it its very offensive someone please help me the smell is very very offensive its every were help please
