What to do when my lard has a large tree that make alot of shade and am trying to prevent ticks?

i have a big orange tree that covers my yard its when the summer comes but what to do when am trying to get rid of ticks?? what to use in order for ticks to go away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
